AMENDMENT TO H.R. [XXXX], AS REPORTED

At the end of the bill insert the following:

Sec. [XXX]. None of the funds made available under this or any other Act, or any prior Appropriations Act to request issuance of a subpoena to a publisher, editor, reporter, or other person connected with or employed upon a newspaper, magazine, blog, or other periodical publication, or a television or radio station, or any person who has been so connected or employed, for telephone toll records or any other information obtained in the course of, or arising out of, the coverage or investigation of a news story, including any unpublished information obtained or prepared, while engaged in the performance of his official duties as a publisher, editor, reporter, or other person connected with or employed upon a newspaper, magazine, blog, or other periodical publication, or a television or radio station, or any person who has been so connected or employed.

Sec. [XXX]. None of the funds made available under this or any other Act, or any prior Appropriations Act to seek a bill of indictment, or file an information, against a publisher, editor, reporter, or other person connected with or employed upon a newspaper, magazine, blog, or other periodical publication, or a television or radio station, or any person who has been so connected or employed for any offense which he is suspected of having committed in the course of, or arising out of, the coverage or investigation of a news story, including any unpublished information obtained or prepared, while engaged in the performance of his official duties as a publisher, editor, reporter, or other person connected with or employed upon a newspaper, magazine, blog, or other periodical publication or any person who has been so connected or employed, including information not disseminated to the public by the person from whom disclosure is sought, whether or not related information has been disseminated and includes, but is not limited to, all notes, outtakes, photographs, tapes or other data of whatever sort not itself disseminated to the public through a medium of communication, whether or not published information based upon or related to such material has been disseminated.
